Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet
54 Hot & Delicious USA-announcement & going solo!

Hot & Delicious USA-announcement & going solo!

Sitting here on my lunch break contemplating the last time that I made a career decision of this enormity… actually there isn’t one… or a choice really… This is BIG!

In March 2016, I’m jetting off to America for a pre-planned trip to SXSW and the latest news update is that I am in fact going to stay on in the USA for at least 2-3 months (hopefully longer).

Yes, I am finishing up my full-time role as SapientNitro Australia’s Social Media Lead, working across Cadbury Dairy Milk, Oreo, Peroni Italian Beer, Bulmers Original Cider, Philly Cream Cheese, Kraft Nuts Spreads and more, to pursue a number of exciting new business opportunities that I’ve been approached about for Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet.

In September, I was asked to speak at Social Media Week - Miami and afterwards, whilst on a much-need 3 week “holiday”, I ran social media for LA Podcast Festival followed by a short break in San Francisco and New York.

As a result of this trip to America, 2-3 new opportunities have come to light and while I’ll still be contracting through Hot & Delicious to Australian clients to bring in the Benjamins (until such time as I can sort USA work visas or I run out of money 😃 😉), I’ll be living in Los Angeles interviewing international guests for the Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast, working with new partners on influencer content, blogging, photography and more!

While I know that I’m being a little vague about these opportunities (one of them is MASSIVE), the long and short of it is as a result of every single leap of faith that I’ve made along the way in my career - from dropping out of my biochemistry degree, flying to Dubai to live in the Middle East and travel the world for 6.5 years as an Emirates Airline international flight attendant, approaching Ballistyx Snowboard Show on Channel GO! about being their music supervisor despite zero experience and nailing it!, putting a 900q meter ice-rink on the sands of Bondi Beach, the first of its kind ever in the world… each one ended up being a career-changing and defining moment of my life.

And the one thing that every single one of these decisions have in common? I followed my gut instinct.. I have to do this...

There are no guarantees and the fact that I’m nervous is a good thing. It’ll push me even harder along my path and whether I return to Australia a few months later or not, I know my life will have  changed forever… for the better.

Download the Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast now to get the exclusive on this massive decision, my journey from a childhood in Indonesia and Perth and exciting next steps in the USA from March 2016.

Amazing... I’ve got tingles!

This… this podcast just makes me happy! Sitting here with this big fuckin’, stupid grin on my face… what an interview!

English singer/songwriter Tanya Batt AKA BATTS Music
(or one half of it anyway) and I became buddies through social media and various mutual friends, then she hit me up via Twitter a few months back about guesting on the ‘Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet' podcast after hearing my sit-down with her best friend Hayden Calnin... and I was like… yeah damn straight! Let’s do this!

The Glenlivet whiskey flows and man this lady just brings inspiring conversation and energy into the room!

We chat about horror movies, Tanya’s CUTEST first ever memory at the age of 2, San Francisco, her twin who died during childbirth, night terrors & sleep-walking,  the evolution of the Tanya Batt music project to approaching 30 different producers from around the world, creating music with 8 producers from 8 different countries across 8 different genres, which led to Tanya forming BATTS Music with UK-based producer Alisdair Mason AKA Ficci, the two of them sending each other tracks recorded in two bedroom studios thousands of miles across the planet which has now culminated with Tanya buying a one-way ticket to the UK, so that they can take this project to the next level! Inspirational!

We spend time talking about her current pen pal in Cardiff, the music of Michael Jackson, Shirley Bassey and Nina Simone, a whole swag of amazing Australian music, the impact that producer and musician Hayden Calnin has made on her life, Tanya’s favourite podcasts (I’m hoping this is now one of them 😀), John William’s book ’Stoner’, BATTS Music's latest single ‘For That I’m Sorry’, which is featured exclusively at the end of this podcast… such an amazing track! Wait ’til you hear it!

Argggh…. I’m going to stop talking… just listen! Amaze!

52 Jordan White (Playwrite).
52 Jordan White (Playwrite).

"Why would I waste my time working for someone else when I can pour myself into something I love?"

Playwrite lead singer & keys player, Jordan White, has had the most wonderful upbringing - the son of a dancer/choreographer and a singer/director, Jordan spent his childhood traveling the world of musical theatre to Broadway, the West End, Singapore, Hong Kong and more.

We begin today’s podcast with the story behind Playwrite’s powerful debut album ‘Cathedrals’, a wonderful work of art and band born of the tragedy of the Black Saturday Fires, Australia's highest ever loss of life from a series of bushfires and one of the worst disasters in Australian history, where fellow band mate and best friend Patrick Holcombe lost his parents whilst trying to save their home in Kinglake, Victoria.

I’m brought to the verge of tears as I remember these cataclysmic events, forever etched in the memories of Victorians - one of my best mates, Nick was a Country Fire Authority volunteer, fighting the fires in the Kinglake area and ferrying people to safety or another friend, Shayne, who is a State Emergency Service volunteer, whose job it was during the Black Saturday Fires to check burnt out cars and other vehicles for people trapped inside… Tears...

From the ashes of sadness, we build through the podcast from this tough start to discuss the positivity and the powerful resilience of those individuals in our lives who’ve evolved into pillars of strength from great diversity, Jordan White’s determination to eliminate the fear and eliminate the self-doubt by recording an album a month for the year of 2015 through his solo project Braille Face, YOWO young women’s music program, Marriage Equality, the ‘one arm up, one arm down’ philosophy to ambition and success, David Burns & the physiological impact of music, a mum who left school at the end of Year 8 to dance in Evita and subsequently ended up being able to buy her parents a house as a result, the magic of musical theatre, parents who performed in the original cast of Cats and the impact that musical theatre has made on Jordan's attitude towards his fans and the band’s live performance, … Powerful chats and just so much goodness...

Playwrite and their music have made a massive impact on my life; I seriously get chills every single time I listen to their music, they lift me up when I’m feeling flat and wow… you should see them live! ✨

Enjoy the podcast and remember "Do what feels right, follow your gut instinct and pull the trigger!"

51 Henry Wagons (Cold Burger Cold Fries).

Hermosa Beach, Nashville hot chicken and Cold Burger, Cold Fries… the LA podcast with Henry Wagons.

Touchdown in LA & straight down to Hermosa Beach where I’m staying for my 1st night stateside to chill, drink a few cheeky American craft beers, smash some SoCal Mexican eats & catch-up with Nashville-bound, Australian singer/songwriter, Henry Wagons.

Through the haze of 13 hour flights from the southern hemisphere and over several delicious IPAs, we talk at length about Henry Wagons' experience of recording his first full-length debut solo album in the wonderful city of Nashville, Tennessee, a former pop country culture, that has evolved into a music mecca for the likes of The Black Keys, Jack White, folk music and a thriving punk scene, the inspiration of Nick Cave’s professionalism and writing music for a living, Henry’s radio show, The Tower of Song on Double J and the impact it’s made on his music, anthropology and philosophy of language, the evocative writing of Cormac McCarthy, Henry's advise for emerging, aspiring and hungry creatives, Nashville hot chicken, Bushwhacker cocktails and moments of adventure and elation that leave their mark.

Super, super, SUPER engaging chats with a philosopher gentleman whos one of the most hilarious and engaging performers I’ve seen in quite some time. Anywhere.

I’m also excited to announce that Henry Wagons has just dropped his new single 'Cold Burger, Cold Fries’ and you can listen to it for the first time in full right here at the end of the podcast. So exciting!

Let’s get amongst it!
