Ash Hazell is the Head of Brewing at Colonial Brewing Co, overseeing brewing at both the Port Melbourne and Margaret River breweries on the east and west coast of Australia. Like many of the world’s best brewers, Ash fell in love with home-brewing beer at a young age and from his very first taste of his mate’s home-brew at 16, he was determined to make brewing beer his life, studying a chemistry degree with units of biochemistry and microbiology, starting his professional journey at one of Australia’s first craft beer breweries, Little Creatures Brewing Co, before founding Barrow Boys Brewing and eventually being head-hunted to take the reins at Colonial Brewing Co. He’s also a close friend of mine and a wonderful soul! Rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, evading crocs, playing footy & music in the Northern Territory, the Tiwi Islands and getting into the thick of Australian indigenous culture. All this & more is just some of what’s in store this week on Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! Australian singer/songwriter Todd Cook joins me live from Adelaide on tour to talk about the launch of ‘The Silent Boat’ EP. Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the first Australian Cricket team’s tour to England in 1868, ‘The Silent Boat’ tells the relatively untold part of Australian history. The team, predominately made up of indigenous players from Western Victoria, displayed outstanding sportsmanship and skill, and their story is a beacon of hope in a dark page of Australian folklore. Todd Cook’s vocals are Gomez x David Gray amplified, he wrote his wedding vows as a song, describes a “pinch me” moment whilst on tour in Belfast and we even get the ‘Silent Boat single a spin.
