109 Lisa Clark - Lifestyle Commentator, Blogger & Social Media Influencer My life is well past more than a little surreal... Studying biochemistry the 1st time around at university, travelling the world over for Emirates Airline for 6.5 years as a flight attendant based in Dubai, putting a 900 square metre ice rink on the sands of Bondi Beach, creating a role music supervisor on Ballistyx Snowboard Show music supervisor and a swag other roles in the music industry and now I have a business and career in an field that didn’t even exist 15 years ago… Finger on the pulse and yep, I’m making it all up as I go along! And this is a MASSIVE part of why I’m filled with the most amazing energy when I catch-up with self-starters like Australian lifestyle commentator, blogger, social media strategist & influencer, Lisa Clark. Very much like myself, Lisa Clark has created a career for herself that she loves by following a #ChooseYourOwnAdventure-style approach to life - choosing to pursue roles based on gut instinct, passion and curiosity. In this vast ranging episode of Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet!, Lisa and I enjoy candid discussions about knowing, staying true to and building your own personal brand, blogging for Skillsroad (an initiative set-up to help the youth of Australia who aren't sure what they want to do in life to discover what kinds of careers will suit their personality type and they might actually enjoy), our respective journeys to living in Bondi Beach and falling in love with this beach community, life growing up in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, Lisa’s love for the Penrith Panthers & early dreams of being a Panthers cheerleader, the support of her dad & best friend Kevin, the challenges of dealing with family members with depression, her mum’s epilepsy and so much more. Lisa Clark is hilarious, independent, ambitious and inspiring. Easily one of my favourite shows of 2016. I was buzzing afterwards! To me, the secret to happiness is all about learning how to be present and in the moment, soaking up the journey that is life and pursuing what makes you happy. Pull the trigger. Beard Season is a yearly event dedicated to Jimmy Niggles' close friend, Wes Bonny, who died in 2009 of cancer just three months after being diagnosed with melanoma. The following winter Jimmy Niggles and his mates played what is now an annual footie game in memory of Wes and in 2011 grew their beards in his honour through the winter, in an event they dubbed Beard Season. Beard Season evolved has over the past 5-6 years into an ongoing campaign to spread the word about how important it is to check your skin for abnormalities that might lead to cancer only a yearly and to raise awareness of what to look for, particularly as most people, myself included, don’t know that the most people at risk from melanoma are blokes aged 18-45. On Wednesday night just gone, Jimmy and I sat down at for a Bronte Beach sunset of red wine, cheese and dips and recorded a podcast about skin cancer, Richard Branson, Graham Norton, the #MillionDollarBeard, dreams with dates & much much more. It’s inspiring to think that what was an event set-up to commemorate a good mate & top bloke, has grown into a global phenomenon and it was just wonderful to spend with an individual who is striving to spend a large chunk of their time making a positive impact on the lives of others. Enjoy the podcast. Hit me up on social media to let me know what you think! Fascinating chats with 4 Pines Brewing Co founder & entrepreneur Jaron Mitchell! From the minute I walk in through the front door of 4 Pines Brewing Co HQ on the shores of the Northern Beaches of Sydney, the whole planned landscape and direction of today's podcast interview changes markedly as I observe Jaron walk through the office saying hello to and addressing each and every individual staff member in the 4 Pines office by name as he makes his way towards me. Throughout our time together I feel like one of those individuals who’s ever spent one-on-one time in a room with the likes of Bill Clinton or Tom Cruise... when the individual sitting before you is so clearly present and engaged in the conversation and the moment. We enjoy vast ranging chats around the evolution of 4 Pines from a 500L brewpub in Manly to being the first beer in space, learning about sour beers & different set-ups from the best in the business at Russian River Brewery in California, challenging the status quo from a young age, business management styles, the values and personality traits that drive your business decisions, leadership culture, staying true to your brand and values and so much more. Founded in by Sydneysider Will Edwards, Archie Rose Distilling Co was inspired by both the distilling industry of Tasmania and the urban distilleries that call New York and London home. In March 2015, Archie Rose Distilling Co. became the very first multi-spirit distillery in Sydney in over 160 years, with a mission to honour Sydney’s rich, spirit-making past by producing handcrafted, premium and unique spirits, including gin, vodka and whisky. In today’s podcast we chat about leaving a job you hate to pursue your passions, what it takes, Luke’s fascinating journey of discovery from the urban distilleries of Brooklyn to farmer distillers in Tasmania, Archie Rose Distillery’s world first Tailored Spirits range, which allows customers to create their very own gin, vodka or whisky (including their name on the bottle) and the brand new Archie Rose Launches Distiller’s Strength Gin - launched last month and packed with fifteen individually distilled botanicals, including fresh pears from Orange, NSW (Will’s family’s home town), rose petals, elderflower, pronounced juniper and distilled honey direct from Archie Rose's rooftop beehives. I can’t believe that in just 2 weeks, the Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! podcast is going to hit 100 episodes and in fact in 2 weeks, from Friday 21st October to Sunday 30 October, Sydney Craft Beer Week, Sydney’s largest celebration of craft beer is back for its sixth year. Co-incidence? I am a mad craft beer fan and so this week, I reached out to a friend of mine, Sydney Craft Beer Week General Manager Yvette Myhill, about having both her and Festival Director Joel Connolly join us as guests on the Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! podcast to chat about the impact that Sydney Craft Beer Week is having on the way Australians consider their beer choices and the 137 Sydney Craft Beer Week events happening at 80 different venues all around harbour town in October. On today’s podcast we announce the Sydney Craft Beer Week App iTunes and Google Play launch, tease the Frankie’s + The Grifter Brew Co + Sydney Craft Beer Week collaboration to create the official #SCBW2016 beer, we discuss the amazing growth of Sydney’s craft beer scene over the past 5-10 years, the sense of community & culture it brings, Joel’s journey across the USA discovering the wonders of craft beer in America a few years back, our favourite IPAs and so much more. Sydney Craft Beer Week 2016 kicks off on Friday October 21st with 2 x Gala Openings on both the Friday night and Saturday afternoon at Giant Dwarf Theatre in Redfern, featuring 19 brewers and a range of fantastic craft brewer creations that will be tried for the very first time! This is going to be a bloody ripper, so if you’re a craft beer lover, novice or expert, anywhere around the world, then Sydney Craft Beer Week and this H&D podcast is going to be your jam! Chris Baker AKA Billy Fox is one of Australia's most prolific artists, talented producer and one hell of a top bloke! Chris & I met in 2010 when I was music supervisor for Ballistyx Snowboard Show on Channel GO! and with a shared internal drive & ambition and love of the cheeky banter, we quickly became firm friends. Drawing inspiration from the likes of James Blake, Sam Smith and James Vincent McMorrow for his latest single ‘Avalanche’, Billy Fox has been punishing the frequent flyer miles supporting the likes of Glass Animals, Boo Seeka, The Aston Shuffle, Tijuana Cartel and R.W. Grace on tours around Australia and his tunes getting the mad love from triple j, FBi and profile music blogs in the UK and the USA all spinning his tunes. We catch-up about working with phenomenal producer/musician Nathan Cavaleri, Raging Bull, the joys of watching your career blossom to the next level before your very eyes, his next steps in the USA/UK and so much more. The first time I tried Nomad Brewing Co’s Long Reach Saison, I was on what I thought was a date at the Champagne Room upstairs from one of my favourite bars in Sydney, The Winery in Surry Hills. That minute the magic touched my lips (the beer), my internal monologue was like… “What IS this magnificence?” Flash forward 4 weeks and I find myself at a craft beer launch in Surry Hills (Sydney) engaged in earnest conversation with co-founder and managing director of Nomad Brewing Co, Kerrie Abba, bonding over time we’ve both spent time living in the northern Italian region of Piemonte at the base of the Alps (where FIAT’s founded, the 2006 Winter Olympics were held and the home of Ferraro chocolate). The very next Friday afternoon I’m sitting here in the ‘Transit Lounge’, Nomad’s tasting bar at the brewery, sipping on Nomad's Freshie Salt & Pepper Gose and reminiscing with Kerrie about the joy of Italian culture and love of life that we were both fortunate enough to experience by living in Italia and the impact it’s made on our respective lives. For Kerrie, it’s become not only a way of life, but her business and lifeblood. 2 years ago, Nomad Brewing Co launched as the brainchild of Kerrie, her husband Johnny Latta and Global Top 100 brewer, Leonardo Di Vincenzo. The owners of Australia’s largest craft beer distributors, Experience IT beverages, Kerrie and Johnny persuaded Brooks Carretta, Leonardo’s brewing protege at Birra Del Borgo, to join them in Australia to set-up the Nomad business and come on board as their head brewer. With all their brew kit all imported from Italy and determined to brew using native Australian ingredients, Nomad Brewing have created an array of amazing beers designed to delight all palates. We enjoy vast ranging chats about the Barolo wine region (King of wines, wine of kings), the fascinating story behind the creation of Freshie Salt & Pepper Gose, Nomad Brewing's 'So Caliente' collaboration with Steve Wagner from Stone Brewing, her various and varied businesses and what inspired Kerrie to jet half-way across the world to live in a small town in Italy. 23 degrees and the blue skies are shining in Sydney as I sit down for a beer & a podcast with Young Henrys Brewery & Distillery, co-founder, Oscar McMahon. Founded in 2012, it’s clear that Oscar’s values and passion for doing what you love in life are reflected in his business, as what started as a small batch brewery in iconic Sydney suburb, Newtown, has evolved into a myriad of connected, community-focused projects that encompass the Young Henrys Brewery & bar in Newtown, The Unicorn Hotel in Paddington, the launch of a new distillery as part of the brewery and this Sunday, Oscar McMahon & his team, held a launch event at Young Henrys in partnership with Pingala and the people of to become Sydney’s first community solar co-operative, reducing the carbon footprint of his business by committing to install community-funded solar panels on the roof of the brewery. So apart from making pretty damn tasty beers (I was at Young Henrys Brewery just 2 weeks ago myself), Oscar McMahon is a super inspirational guy and for any budding entrepreneur with a idea burning a hole in their brains, then this podcast is a fantastic place to start. Peow peow peow! We’ve gone for the music industry and podcast double header this past 2 weeks, rounding out July with producer Matt Nielson of Poncho TV. Poncho TV is a killer online video & podcast channel that breaks the boredom and lack of general innovation of your standard, generic music industry content, by producing hilarious vids to entertain themselves and Aussie artists/bands who are sick of phoning in the same old bullshit music media interviews. Pushing the boundaries is pretty much Matt’s job description and as a guy that’s had to toe the line in brand world, it’s a vibe I can relate to well, with Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! not only being my travel, entertainment & lifestyle brand, but a release where I can be me and let my true creativity and personality rise to the top. This is a SUPER chat as we geek out over the joys of podcasting, with Matt as the co-host of Poncho TV’s Poncho Podcast, the producer of Club Angels podcast if you’re into your dance music, pop culture and the party scene and the aptly named The Fireside Chat podcast, which is actually the term “used to describe a series of 30 evening radio conversations (chats) given by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt between 1933 and 1944.”* Anyway, crack yourself open a cold Barrow Boys Stormy Lager & settle in for a wonderful chat with a South African-born lad, that nows calls Melbourne home. 87 Ash Hills (Tram Sessions & 123 Agency - Music Industry). Are you happy in your chosen career? Do you set yourself little checkpoints along the way where you re-assess where you’re at? Do you actually enjoy what you’re doing? On a cold winter’s morning in Collingwood (Melbourne), I meet Ashleigh Hills, Tram Sessions GM, 123 Agency project manager and Woodlock acoustic/folk trio's band manager for the first time. Originally from Dunedin, New Zealand, Ash arrived in Melbourne 7 years ago with no real concrete career plan and then stumbled across the Tram Sessions, a not-for-profit project that sees some of Australia’s most talented musicians perform live guerrilla concerts on Melbourne’s most popular method of transport, which is filmed and shared out to the masses. With well over 3m views on YouTube, Tram Sessions boast a wealth of premiere established and emerging talent of the likes of Vance Joy, Gotye & The Basics, Aussie icon Paul Kelly, Alpine, Kingswood, Bonjah & many more. If you’re a person who craves discovering the wealth of new talent in the Australian music scene, then this YouTube channel is tailor-made for you! Today’s chat about Tram Sessions, Woodlock, Ash's journey of professional development through a range of 123 Agency music industry roles and Porch Sessions, felt hanging out with an old friend and a what wicked way to start the weekend early. It’s was so energizing to spend an hour or so with a like-minded soul who has built a lifestyle and career for herself pursing her passions and I thoroughly enjoy surrounding myself with people like this, because ultimately we only have one life and it’s a short one, so why shouldn’t you spend your working hours doing something you love? After all, someone out there has to be successful, why shouldn’t it be you? Let’s get into the podcast! I am ambitious, I love the banter and am a big believer in surrounding yourself with passionate, like-minded souls who bring the best out of you in our personal life and professional career and quite often these mix quite well together, as I’ve discovered as a professional in both the music industry and the digital sphere over the past 10 years. Back in 2010 I met an TV editor, by the name of Alister Robbie, whilst I was working as a music supervisor on Ballistyx Snowboard Show on Channel GO! Over the past 6 years our own parallel paths have driven each other forward as gentleman with a passion for life and shared ambition. Flash forward 6 years later, Al’s production company The Post Project is thriving, whilst my own career and business grows from strength-to-strength and it’s exciting to think how far we’ve both come in such a short space of time. One of the wonderful elements of focusing my energies on nurturing positive friendships like these, is that invariably I meet new like-minded people from their world (and them mine) and our shared network of energizing, inspiring people propels us all forward to a life of great joy and success (don’t worry, there are still plenty of challenges along the way, but I like to focus on the positive) 😀 Through my friendship with Al and shared our love of craft beer, I’ve met a lot of interesting, intelligent and inspiring individuals whom I now count as my friends, including ambitious Two Row Bar co-founder and Good Beer Week social media lead, Tiffany Waldron. 4 years ago, Tiff up and quit her full-time job to follow her passions and just two years later, out of her passion for delicious and different “frothies” and her social media work with Good Beer Week, Two Row Bar sprung to life. With five rotating taps that change weekly and feature only the best craft beer from Australia, the USA and around the world, Two Row Bar has become a hub for Australian craft beer lovers, brewers and Fitzroy locals to call their own. It’s uplifting to see so many of my friends shoot for the stars, put their money where their mouth is by taking a punt and watch as their dreams come to life before my very eyes, so if you’re energised and inspired by the excitement of discovering delicious new craft beers, learning more about the evolution of craft beer in both Australia and the USA and the not-so-secret to generating success from your passion and ambitions, then this little podcast is the one for you. So proud of you, Tiff. Let’s get into it! Boom! Sweet catch-ups by me and my dirty pornstar moustache with Tribe App founder, radio personality & TV presenter, Jules Lund about his recent foray into the digital space and the launch of game-changing influencer platform, Tribe app. Reebok, Sony Music, Grill’d, Contiki, Paramount Pictures and American Express are just a few brands who have jumped on board this self-serve platform designed to match Australia's most influential people with brands around the country. And I’m not just talking celebrities, I am talking about everyday Australians who have built their own personal brands through early adoption, well crafted social media content and have built audiences in beauty, fashion, sport, health, travel and entertainment just by staying true to who they are and being themselves. There are over 250,000 people in Australia with more than 5,000 followers on either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and this is the perfect opportunity for both brands and influencers to not only cash in on a mutually beneficial relationship, but connect people with brands they want, build communities that individuals can feel a part of and create the most wonderful premium content, which in turn works to turn the tide against our social media newsfeeds being consistently populated by overly branded garbage that so many misguided brands strive to push upon consumers. Jules and I chat about those moments when you scare the f*ck out of yourself by taking a leap of faith, being hypnotised and inspired by former AFL footballer and mentor, Jim Stynes, Adele and fake Wiki facts, mindfulness and Smiling Mind, the wonderful guidance of Matt Berriman and Jane Martino who have helped take Tribe to another level, Sony, One Direction and a 1D fan earned some serious cash money for nail art on Instagram.. yes, I’m serious... This podcast is one for the entrepreneurs, marketers and start-up fiends… it’s all about empowering people, influencers creating amazing content the way they want to create it and getting paid for the pleasure. I love that I’ve lived my life based on gut instinct, craving the desire to learn, evolve and constantly pursue new opportunities. This attitude, born of a lust for life, happiness, a want to love myself and my life lead me to Los Angeles last year to run social media for LA Podcast Festival. These days I rarely do stuff for cheap or for free, unless it’s for business development, a close friend or a cause that I believe in. In the case of LA Podfest, it’s a little of column A, but predominantly as I want to ensure that I do the right thing by the US government and only pursue work opportunities through legal channels, if & when I do have the legal right to work in the USA… but O1 Visas are a whole other story… 😃 Anyway, LA Podfest has forever changed my life - I’ve met so many wonderful people from around the world including my own podcast fans, my now producer and become friends with an array of talented, enigmatic, giving and hilarious comedians and one of those is American stand-up comedian & ‘Road Stories’ podcaster, Murray Valeriano. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of an ex-military born again preacher, Murray Valeriano has travelled and live all over the USA and eventually followed up on his dreams of living in California. In today’s chat at my West Hollywood pad, we chat about what it was like to grow up as the son of a preacher man, the ‘Road Stories’ podcast that Murray records with top comedians about their stories and life on the road as a stand-up comic, the challenges of writing a new hour on religion in a country like America, where even daring to raise the topic can turn a crowd in seconds, my own beliefs and thoughts on religion, the best ever heckles he’s ever had, balancing his life in Santa Monica with movie industry wife and young son, Frank, with his career, podcast and surfing and lots, lots more. I love that at a young age that I opened up my mind up to meeting new people and not being afraid to take a leap of faith based purely on gut instinct. It’s lead me to so many mind-blowing and wonderful opportunities that I’ve never dreamed of and making inspiring new friends like Murray Valeriano. Let’s jump into it... 76 Daniel MacPherson (Australian actor). Every now and then I have a podcast guest on my show where the conversation just flows and this Los Angeles podcast with hardworking, talented & award-winning Australian actor, Dan MacPherson is one of those. Born in beachside suburb of Cronulla, just south of Sydney CBD, Dan MacPherson was originally spotted by his agent whilst at a triathlon in southern Sydney and was soon placed in a role on long-running Australia soapie, Neighbours. Since that time he’s gone on to a number of different acting and presenting roles in Australia, the United Kingdom and America including the musical theatre in London, British police drama series ‘The Bill’ (which I grew up watching in my parent’s household) and most recently ‘The Shannara Chronicles’, a brand new MTV TV series based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. In today’s podcast, we enjoy vast and fascinating, ranging chats at length about the significance of Australia Day or “Invasion Day” as it’s known by some people, the beauties of life in Los Angeles and California, what ANZAC Day means to both Dan and myself as the grandsons of ANZACs who fought in the 2nd World War (ANZAC Day is also his birthday), Australia’s need to evolve as a country and a culture to make it a place that’s welcome for people of all backgrounds, nationalities, cultures & gender/sexual identities, career discipline, the hunger for personal & professional growth and what it takes to take a leap of faith to start from scratch in another country in what has already been a highly successful acting career and the excitement of working on MTV’s 'The Shannara Chronicles’. This is an absolute cracker of a podcast & no doubt one of the most candid chats you’ll hear from Dan MacPherson. Let’s get into it! I still pinch myself almost every day… I live in a technological age where I can work from almost anywhere with a DSLR, laptop, mobile phone and a Wi-Fi connection… and I do!
As we speak, I’m sitting at my desk in the apartment that I’m renting for the next 7 weeks in West Hollywood and wearing a massive smile on my face. The first 5 weeks of my 90 days in the USA has just flown by and in that time I’ve created content in Texas, Georgia and California whilst working remotely with my Australian clients and contracts from the USA… this from a guy that dropped out of a biochemistry degree back in the day… Anyway, before I left Australia for this exciting jaunt in the USA, I caught up with Australian illustrative fashion blogger & influencer, Mads Francis, an internationally renowned creative with over 91K followers on Instagram who’s had her designs and drawings featured by Rihanna, Kim Kardashian & many more. Wonderfully inspiring chats with talented, ambitious and driven young woman, who’s created a living by pursuing her passion and putting the hard yards in to make her dreams a reality… And I feel like she’s just getting started… Let’s get into it!

Matt Gresham… What can I say… I’m sitting here in Augusta, Georgia, on the road creating content at The US Masters and listening to Matt's latest single ‘Small Voices’ and I just have chills… it’s so beautiful! ✨
Matt & I hung out just a few weeks back in Austin (Texas), when he was showcasing at the world’s largest Film, Music & Interactive Conference at SXSW. This former X-Factor contestant is a lovely, friendly and unassuming bloke from Perth, who’s new single ‘Small Voices’ has had well over 365K+ plays on Spotify in less than 2 months! Yes, I’m serious! Mentored by R&B heavyweight Usher, if you get the privilege see a Matt Gresham live set, I kid you not, you will be quite simply be blown away! Picture the soaring emotions of Damien Rice and you’ll get an idea of the goosebumps that go hand-in-hand with his live show. Anyway, we spend today’s podcast talking about Matt Gresham's journey through the music industry, soaking up his mother’s poetry, musical inspirations including Neil Young, Cat Stevens and more. "It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen"😉
With 2.6M+ plays of their ‘Lonely Cities’ single in the past 7 weeks since it’s release and their 2nd SXSW appearance in just 2 years, Tigertown are taking the world by storm. Very exciting times!
I’m almost certain that one of the key reasons that Tigertown are one of the hottest Aussie pop acts floating around the music scene at the moment is that they are family. The band consists of 3 siblings and a husband and wife - and the way that they interact with each other when together just warms my heart. Cheeky banter, supportive and loving all at the same time.
In today's thoroughly inspiring and enlightening podcast, we explore the impact that Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson and their dad have made on their collective lives, each of their earliest ever memories, Spotify, Apple Music and music piracy, travelling in Rajasthan (India), mastering your craft and staying true to your dreams.
And did I tell you about the ‘Lonely Cities’ EP? Wicked uplifting jams perfect for that beautiful, summer road trip! Get on it!

You never know who’s watching. Be ready.
Here I sit. 10km above the earth, USA-bound on a jet-plane, 12 hours from touch down at Dallas Forth Worth International editing this week’s podcast with goal driven, ex NBA Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls & Australian Olympic basketballer, Chris Anstey.
7ft tall and a world of experience. Chris Anstey didn’t start playing basketball until he was aged 17 and then in his first match filling in on his brother’s team, scored 52 points in one game not knowing that there were 2 scouts in the crowd. And the rest is history...
Despite all of the accolades and championships that he’s won as a baller, what some people won’t know about Chris Anstey is that prior to basketball, his first love in sport was tennis - a promising young Australian tennis player, Chris peaked as the #2 ranked junior in Australia of his age-group at aged 15, played with The Scud AKA Mark Philippoussis and was doubles partners with champion AFL footballer Dustin Fletcher.
Blessed to be welcomed into Chris’ home through a mutual friend of ours, Chris and I spend the hour talking about his open, honest & pragmatic transition from tennis to basketball, what it means to represent Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, leadership, understanding your team and each individual’s style of learning so that you can help them raise the bar for their own skill-set and aspirations, beating Michael Jordan & the Chicago Bulls and much, much more.

Oh man… that Demi Louise… she’s just a little ray of sunshine!
Demi and I met a few years back via Twitter and since we’re both jetting off to Austin (TX) in just 4 weeks for SXSW, we were like… let’s hang out and do a podcast together!😃 Demi Louise is an Australian folk pop singer songwriter who has travelled the world with her music performing at the world’s largest music conference, SXSW (Austin, TX), International Folk Alliance (Kansas), CMJ Music Marathon in New York, Liverpool Sound City Music Festival (UK), MUCON & Zandari Festival in South Korea and Canadian Music Week (Toronto). At age 22, the Melbourne based singer/songwriter made a bold decision to travel the globe, build a fanbase organically through solid live shows and tap into international audiences beyond the Australian market by interacting andconnecting with fans of intern ational artists of a similar style to her own from around the world on Twitter. As a result of this simple, but astute foresight, Demi Louise now boasts a combined social media following of more than 60K+and she has racked upalmost a quarter of a million views on YouTube. These are exactly the kind of digital tactics that all Australian musicians should utilize if they’re hoping to move beyond a small and saturated music market of just 23 million people that reside within our shores. Demi’s down with the selfies, a demon on Twitter & Snapchat, so don’t forget to show her the Twitter love while you’re listening to today’s podcast and say hey to us both. Her social links & mine are all in the podcast show notes. I’ve got so much admiration & respect for individuals who put in the hard yards to create their own worlds and their hard-earned money where their mouth is - Demi has not only self-funded all recording of her music, but all of her travels around the world! Inspiring Australian photographer Aleksandar Jason - working with kick-ass brands & living the dream!
Sitting here buzzing after my interview with Australian commercial, sports and wedding photographer, Aleksandar Jason. Aleks and I met in Brunswick St, Fitzroy (Melbourne) back in 2011 through wicked Aussie bands The Belligerents and The Griswolds. At the time, Aleks was shooting for his music photography blog, adamNoteve and working with Johann Ponniah (founder of Australian music company, brand and independent record label, I Oh You!), whilst I was working in the music industry and also shooting freelance music photography for Hot & Delicious/various other publications. Flash forward 5 years and Aleks now has an impressive list of commercial clients that he’s worked with including Nike, Vice Magazine, Oakley, Heineken, Jameson Whiskey, General Pants just to name a few... Not only that, he has a thriving wedding photography business, is Melbourne City’s (A-League Football) official photographer and has well over 140,000 followers on Instagram. Super inspiring chats as we talk of Aleks' experience of being flown to Spain as Heineken’s official photographer/Instagrammer for the UEFA Champions League, being followed on Instagram by Instagram and featured by Instagram on their platform… twice! and much, much more. Star Wars, Steele Wars & the stuff that dreams are made of. Part 1.
Australian comedian, podcaster & businessman, Steele Saunders is living the dream. For the past year and a half, apart from his specialist Melbourne sneaker store The Sure Store, the iconic I Love Green Guide Letters podcast and working with Studio 10, he’s been producing the Steele Wars podcast for Star Wars fans the world over. With a growth from 10K downloads per week to over 150K+ podcast downloads per month between Steele Wars and I Love GG Letters since we first podcasted together 8 months ego, Steele has quite obviously struck a chord with the digital community and is rapidly building a large online following. After an epic 3 hour podcast last time around, I decided (for my own sanity and to savour quality content) to split this podcast recording over 2 weeks. In Part 1, Steele and I talk at length about the Star Wars - The Force Awakens premiere, his wonderful connection with Harrison Ford on the red carpet, Steele's recent wedding to Australian-born LA-based modelling agent, Jacqueline Hau, a life spent travelling between Los Angeles and Australia, building a career in media and the next Star Wars instalments due out in 2016 and 2017.
You don’t have to be a Star Wars junkie to enjoy this chat with a friend own mine, who I’ve come to know as a tenacious, ridiculously hard-working and inspiring individual. This podcast is all about having a dream, wanting to love what you do and then making it a reality. Very inspiring stuff, Steele! Let’s get amongst it! 12 months ago I didn’t know Graham Elwood and Chris Mancini AKA Comedy Film Nerds, creators of Ear Buds: The Podcast Documentary and 2 of the 4 founders of LA Podcast Festival… and here we are… January 2016, now mates and working on several wicked projects, brought together by the power of podcasting! In May last year after recording a Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast with American comedian, podcast and 1 of LA Podfest co-founder, Dave Anthony, I approached Dave about having Hot & Delicious join the line-up and drive social media for LA Podcast Festival. Flash forward 8 months and I’m sitting in a Melbourne CBD hotel room recording a podcast with the Comedy Film Nerds duo about their Ear Buds: The Podcast Documentary launch, LA Podfest and the Australian Star Wars - The Force Awakens premiere, which one of the CFN podcast fans, Eric Cullen, stumped up $5K cash so that Graham and Chris could fly halfway across the world to attend the premiere, then record a dual Star Wars spoiler podcast episode collaboration with Steele Saunders for Steele Wars and Comedy Film Nerds.
Today we chat about jetting to New York, Japan, outback Australia and around the globe to film the Ear Buds: The Podcast Documentary (due out in 2016), raising $140K in 40 days on Kickstarter and only hitting the target 30 minutes before deadline, how podcasting is changing the USA showbiz machine, building digital communities and the impact that podcasting has had on our respective lives, geeking out over the Star Wars - The Force Awakens premiere, including our Star Wars memories from childhood and how it’s part of the driving force 😉 for Graham and Chris in their careers today, LA Podcast Festival and so much more... If you’re a Comedy Film Nerds fan, a Star Wars tragic, podcast lover or a die-hard movie groupie, then this is the episode for you… I’ve already had a sneak peak of the Ear Buds: The Podcast Documentary and it is a beauty! Wicked podcast chats with American stand-up comic, podcaster and writer, Gareth Reynolds, covering a diverse and mind-blowing array of content including the Dukes of Hazzard, Washington Redskins and nations that haven’t dealt with their racism, Italy and the Statue of David in Florence, three key pieces of advice for anyone wanting to start a career in stand-up comedy, sucking off Tim Tams, his journey from growing up in the cheesehead state of Wisconsin to English-born parents to university life in Boston, writing on a TV show in New York and building his career in stand-up, the impact that writing sketch comedy with writing partner Evan Mann has made on his career, kangaroo ball bottle openers, the Green Bay Packers, koalas & clymidia and so much more!
